Invergordon is the port for Inverness, the capital of the Scottish Highlands and junction of many routes. Over the centuries, Inverness was often the focal point of clashes between Highland chiefs, and the Crown. Today the town is a popular tourist attraction as well as a gathering place for the clans of the surrounding area. Enjoy the picture-perfect scenery and perhaps an opportunity to chat with a Highlander eager to introduce you to his fabled land and its rich heritage.
Activities
- Inverness Museum and Art Gallery - The exhibits may be worth viewing as they provide a good general overview of the development of the Highlands.
- Loch Ness Monster Exhibition - Located 14 miles southwest of Inveress, the exhibits tell the legend of the monster from 565 AD to the present. Displays include equipment used in the hunt, a scale model of the loch and models of various investigations. Films and narrations augment the exhibits.
Shopping
Small shops with regional souvenirs can be found in the town center of Invergordon. In Inverness, the major shopping areas are along High Street and at the Eastgate Shopping Center. Whisky, local crafts and knitwear are popular buys. Some shops may be closed on Sundays. Late night shopping on Thursdays – up to 7/8pm.
